Students returning to school for the new academic year has colleges and universities challenged on how to contain the virus and enforcing policies meant to prevent the virus spread. According to CNN, 36 states in the United States have reported more than 8700 cases of corona virus in colleges and universities based on the data from John Hopkins University.
University of Alabama have reported 1200 positive cases ever since the resuming of schools on the 19th of August. Some universities have opted to continue with online classes. The virus outbreaks have been identified at four different sororities at Kansas State University, according to the news released from the college and the Riley County Healthy Department.
The Providence College in Rhode Island has implemented policies to prevent the virus from spreading but however, some students have been placed on interim suspension for violating those measures, meaning they will not be allowed on campus or in class until they attend a hearing, Steven Maurano, college spokesperson, told told CNN. The college president, Mr Fr Kenneth said he was really disappointed by the students for going against the prevention policies which could have put other students in danger. Temple University also announced that they will be closing face to face classes for two weeks due to the large number of students who were tested positive of the virus.
