While the new crown epidemic in New York and other places is gradually stabilizing, the multi-state epidemic in the southern and western United States has recently rebounded significantly, and the number of newly confirmed cases in a single day has reached a new high.
The rebound in the Texas epidemic began at the end of May, and the trend became more obvious after June 20. Newly diagnosed cases hovered at the 10,000 mark for three consecutive days from July 7 to 9.
Statistics from the Texas Department of Health show that as of July 9, more than 230,000 confirmed cases of the new crown in the state were more than doubled from half a month ago. At the same time, the positive rate of nucleic acid tests has also risen sharply. Taking Houston, the largest city in Texas as an example, this indicator has soared from 10% a month ago to 25%.
The Texas Medical Center in Houston is the world’s largest regional medical center with more than 60 medical institutions. The center issued a statement on June 25 stating that the utilization rate of intensive care beds in the hospitals of the center has reached 100%, of which about 30% are infected with new coronavirus. In desperation, the hospital had to move some critically ill patients to the intensive care unit of Children’s Hospital; cancer specialist hospitals also began to accept cancer patients infected with the new coronavirus.
Assistant Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services Brett Girovare recently said that one of the reasons for the recent local outbreaks in southern and western states is that groups under the age of 35 did not wear masks to gather, or did not maintain social distance.
